Haf-Afl is pleased to announce a collaboration with Wavepiston, aimed at exploring the deployment of wave energy solutions in Icelandic waters.
Iceland has built a strong renewable energy system based on hydropower and geothermal resources. As energy demand grows and grid constraints become more pronounced—particularly in remote and coastal areas—there is a clear need for complementary, resilient energy sources. Wave energy offers a promising addition: predictable, local, and well suited to Iceland’s extensive coastline.
Wavepiston’s technology converts wave motion into clean electricity and can be adapted to supply energy to grid-constrained regions, coastal industries, and isolated communities. In addition to power generation, the technology opens opportunities for integrated industrial water solutions, further strengthening local infrastructure and resilience.
Haf-Afl’s role in this collaboration is to support the pathway from testing to potential implementation in Iceland, leveraging local expertise, partnerships, and project development experience to enable real-world deployment under Icelandic conditions.
Together, Haf-Afl and Wavepiston look forward to assessing how wave energy can broaden Iceland’s renewable energy mix and contribute to a more diversified, secure, and sustainable energy future.
The journey continues—towards practical wave energy at scale. 🌊⚡
